Select Board backs police position in 3.4% budget

NH CANTERBURY — Canterbury Select Board endorses 3.4 percent budget with fourth police officer retained. Chief Justin Crotty presented comparative data on Canterbury's call volume and staffing across 10 comparable towns, showing that removing the fourth officer would result in the highest officer-to-call ratio in the group. Chair Scott Doherty and Selectman Beth Blair supported restoring the position after reviewing the data.
The board committed to developing a Canterbury-specific wage proposal at a working session after Town Meeting while also unanimously approving a fire engine bond with principal reduced to $437,000 from $490,000 and agreeing to $1.5 million in laddered CD investments.
